Key Stage 1 Maths Curriculum
Year 1 Mathematics Programme is designed to instruct children in the following areas:
- Numbers – understanding numbers and their values (from 1 to 100)
- Addition and subtraction – at least up to 20
- Solving single-step problems involving multiplication and division
- An initial introduction to fractions
- Measurements
- Characteristics of shapes, as well as position and direction
According to the National Curriculum, calculators should only be introduced towards the end of key stage 2 to aid pupils' conceptual understanding and exploration of more intricate number problems, provided that their written and mental arithmetic skills are well-established. Key Stage 1 English Curriculum
Year 1 English Programme is designed to instruct children in various areas, including but not limited to:
- Word Reading: Applying phonics knowledge and skills for word reading.
- Accurate Reading: Reading accurately and aloud from books recommended by the National Curriculum.
- Fostering a Love for Reading: Developing a love for reading.
- Understanding Texts: Understanding both the books they can already read accurately and fluently, as well as those they listen to.
- Discussion Participation: Engaging in discussions about the texts read to them, taking turns, and listening to others.
- Explaining Understanding: Clearly articulating their comprehension of the texts read to them.
- Spelling
- Handwriting
- Sentence Writing: Writing sentences and then discussing what they have written.
- Vocabulary, Grammar, and Punctuation
The programme incorporates Science textbooks in reading and comprehension tasks, where applicable, so that children can also gain Science knowledge during their lessons at Super Tutor.
